Synopsis:
When Xiao Bo's father is on his deathbed, he asks Xiao Bo to
see him off with his sperm. Xiao Bo has done it. But what he
has not done is to satisfy Nana to live with her. From then
on, Nana starts to behave unconventionally and unrestrainedly.
She flirts with every man she meets till the end of jumping
bed with them. In the graveyard, when she is with Xiao Bo to
pay their respects she wakes up to reality. But nobody knows
if she could find a man who would like to live with her or not.
Dong Dong who meets Nana in a private party is a student in
a high school. His mother Ru Meng Ling changed her sex and now
becomes a man but still live with his stepfather Da Yu. After
Dong Dong experiences to spend a night out of home, he helps
Ru Meng Ling to set up his position at home as "Number
One Brother". Da Yu is not happy with this at all but still
falls in love with Ru Meng Ling so that he could not re-select
his girlfriend. After a long time of oppression, Da Yu rapes
Ru Meng Ling. As a kind of revenge, Dong Dong fuddles Da Yu
so that Ru Meng Ling violates Da Yu in reverse. As a Christian,
Dong Dong goes to a church. There he neither repents nor takes
the bread and wine. He only gives his cross to Xiao Bo whom
he never met before. Xiao Bo goes back home and recites one
piece of fable about "Demi-angel". In the fable, it
says that although human being is not perfect, still can it
become the demi-angel of others' and send them to the Heaven.

Een bont gezelschap passeert in Beijing de revue in ongepolijste
en excentrieke vertelling over seksuele geaardheden. Cui Zi'en,
die lesgeeft aan de filmacademie van Beijing, had een groot
aandeel in Liu Bingjians baanbrekende gayfilm Men and Women.
Nu introduceert hij een nieuwe homoseksuele Chinese cinema met
een film die zegt: alles wat je weet over seksuele identiteit
en geslachtsorientatie is verkeerd. Vanaf het beginhoofdstuk,
waarin de aantrekkelijke Xiao Bo door zijn stervende moeder
(of is het zijn vader?) gepijpt wordt, schept de film genoegen
in het rondspetteren in de morele equivalent van sperma. De
personages zijn een heerlijk bont gezelschap. Xiao Bo woont
samen met Nana, maar slaagt er totaal niet in om haar te bevredigen.
Nana flirt met allerlei mannen, in de hoop dat ze een betere
partner vindt, maar begint te vrezen dat er geen man in Beijing
is die bij haar past. Dongdong is een scholier wiens moeder
een geslachtsverandering van vrouw tot man ondergaat. Dit bemoeilijkt
haar relatie met Dongdongs stiefvader die nog steeds genoeg
van haar (hem) houdt en daardoor weerhouden wordt op zoek te
gaan naar een nieuwe vriendinĦ Cui schreef dit eerst als een
roman en de structuur van met elkaar verbonden hoofdstukken
en de soms ambitieuze dialoog weerspiegelt die oorsprong. Maar
de excentriekheid van het alledaagse leven in Beijing is allesbehalve
literair en de ruwe, onafhankelijke kantjess intensiveren eigenlijk
zijn geweldige, perverse benadering van gender politics. Grappig
en ontroerend. |
